Gentle Touch Reflexology
What is Reflexology
Reflexology is a holistic treatment which helps the body to restore its equilibrium or balance. Specific points on the feet (face, hands or ears) are then worked by the practitioner.
History
Its roots can be traced back to ancient Egypt, India and China but its introduction to the Western World was as 'Zone Therapy' in 1913 by Dr William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, who believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body. This was further developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930's into what we now recognise as reflexology.
What is Gentle Touch Reflexology
Gentle Touch Reflexology is a subtle and refined branch of reflexology pioneered by Sue Ricks over 20 years ago. It differs from other types of reflexology as it uses a light and soothing touch along with massage movements to support your body's own healing ability - physical and emotional by:
Helping to reduce stress
Inducing deep relaxation
Boosting energy levels
Supporting the immune system
Stimulating creativity and productivity
Promotes restful sleep.
I may also incorporate other techniques into the treatment such as:
Spinal Reflexology is a powerful treatment which involves stimulating the spinal reflexes on the feet. As each reflex is stimulated, we can identify which nerve roots are out of balance.
Brazilian Toe Technique Massage was discovered being used in Brazilian hospitals to sedate patients. It could sometimes put people to sleep deep enough to perform surgery on them when no anaesthetics were available!
What to Expect at a Treatment
The treatment lasts approximately 50 minutes. At the first visit I will ask you some questions about your health and lifestyle and what you are hoping to gain from the sessions. Following this you will then be made comfortable, either in my lafuma or couch. Oil will be applied to the feet and the treatment will begin. At the end I will leave the room for a few minutes to allow you to gather your senses. I will discuss the findings to you and any appropriate aftercare advice.
How will I feel after a Treatment
Every individual will have a different experience following a session. This can include:
Very relaxed & calm
Feel tired and enjoy a good night's sleep
Emotional
Mild cold and headache symptoms
Visit the toilet regularly.
Sometimes the therapy throws up old symptoms and you may feel rough for a couple of days, this does not mean that Reflexology has not been effective and then you will feel better. These symptoms are called a healing transition. These will decrease with regular sessions and the body rebalances.
NB: Reflexology does aim to cure or diagnose and should not be used instead of professional medical advice.
